For instance, drawing a concept map, solving a puzzle, finding daily problems related to the material, or playing snakes and ladders game about the material.ĮDITED BOOK ON ONE DAY EVENT PROCEEDINGS ON INNOVATION IN EDUCATION, UNIVERSITY OF PATRAS, AGRINIO, 2018 The last phase was integration where students made conclusions based on their whole activities.

The next phase was free orientation, in which it gave an opportunity to do complex tasks by using different methods. In the third phase, explication, students identified concepts, principles, or procedures that they found in the previous phase. The second was directed orientation that asked students to do guided tasks based on information in the first phase. For example, contextual problems related to area of circle table, information about the history of "Pi", or observation pedal circuit. In this phase, the module offered information related to students' tasks. The module was developed by five phases of van Hiele theory. This article describes the developing process of circle module based on van Hiele theory. Because there is the difference of students' ability in solving circle geometry, a module can be used to deal with. The van Hiele theory offers learning phases as an effective way to be applied in geometry classes.

Hence, the use of Van Hiele's phases of learning geometry integrated with GSP software is very encouraged as an alternative strategy in learning geometry to increase the students' understanding and their level of geometric thinking.Įven though circle has been learned by students since they were in primary school, students have not mastered ability in solving circle problems well. Besides that, the GSP software was easy to use and helped them in their learning process. The results of the study showed that most of the students agreed that the prepared activities gave them positive effects such as facilitating their geometry lessons and boosting their confidence to learn geometry. Questionnaires were given to the students to obtain their opinion regarding the activities based on Van Hiele's phases of learning geometry using GSP. Two teachers conducted the workshop that was attended by 30 Form 2 students.

A 2-day workshop was conducted in a secondary school in Negeri Sembilan to put the developed activities in action. The topic included was Form Two's Transformations.

The activities were developed and certified by a few experts. Hence, the objective of this paperwork is to identify the students' opinion towards the activities developed according to Van Hiele's phases of learning geometry using Geometer's Sketchpad (GSP) software.

For the topics of geometry, the provided activities are arranged properly according to Van Hiele's phases of learning geometry namely information, guided orientation, explicitation, free orientation and integration. In this age of modern technology, many learning aid tools can be used to facilitate the learning process. Students should be given the opportunity to experience effective and interesting learning process.
